Checked baggage allowance policy.
Travelling in Economy on a domestic or int. flight with QF will have a maximum free baggage allowance of up to 23kgs.(non USA travel).
- · New baggage allowances are simplified & consistent across Domestic & Int. flights using the weight system
- · Economy total free allowance is 23kgs regardless of number of pieces on Int. routes
- · Additional collection rates has been simplified. Charges will apply per kilo for any total baggage weights exceeding the 23kgs allowance to a maximum of 32kg p/piece.
- · Sporting equipment such as golf clubs/surfboards etc are carried free of charge providing it is within the allowance of the class of travel.
Excess baggage charges will apply as follows:
- · Domestic AUD10 per kg (incl. Australia - Trans Tasman)
- · International AUD50 per kg (to/from Africa/Europe - Australia)
- · International AUD35 per kg (Australia to/from Asia )
- Free Baggage allowance in other classes: Premium Economy - same as economy.
Business Class - 30kg; First Class - 40kg; Infants - 10kgs (needs to be manually changed on tickets) Applies to QF flight numbers only.

Important Information for all customers travelling from South Africa to Australia
Eff. 3Oct'08. The Australian govt. has mandated enhanced security measures at OR Tambo Int. Apt resulting in new procedures regarding Duty Free purchases & a second screening requirement.
DUTY FREE purchases: Pax travelling to Australia may take on board liquids, aerosols & gels purchased at duty free stores only if they are delivered to the gate in a sealed bag with proof of purchase & only collected by the pax at the boarding gate. Duty Free shops at OR Tambo Int. Apt will deliver your purchases to the gate for collection after you have been through the secondary screening at the gate.
Secondary Screening: All pax will go through a secondary screening at the boarding gate for all QF/SAA flights from Jnb to Sydney/Perth.

To help prevent terrorist attacks, new rules about liquids in carry-on luggage are in force. Eff. Mar 31'07, pax on int. flights to & from Australia will be allowed to carry only a small amount of liquid (incl. aerosols & gels) in their carry-on baggage.
Ensure each container does not exceed 100ml & fits comfortably into a transparent re-sealable plastic bag no larger than one litre. Under certain conditions, allowances will be made for baby food or medications needed for the flight. Duty free purchases must be contained in a tamper-proof bag issued by JNB Duty Free Shops.
If Transiting through Australia to another International destination eg: New Zealand, YOU MAY NOT TAKE DUTY FREE THROUGH SYDNEY SECURITY.

VISAS
ALL PAX to AUSTRALIA, except Australian & New Zealand passport holders, require an AUSTRALIAN VISA. For further info on Australian Visa requirements, please see the Australian Visa application centre website - www.vfs-au.co.za (Help line 0839133636). Please allow for at least three weeks for visa application.
Pax travelling to AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND will require a MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA for Australia.
SA Passport holders travelling to NEW ZEALAND, & transiting through Australia, do not require a TRANSIT VISA if connecting within 8 hours. Other nationalities may need a Transit Visa. (check www.immi.gov.au/visitors - There is no charge for Transit Visas. Note - Pax travelling via Perth require a visa as Perth has no transit facilities.
Please note that all airports in Australia have a curfew & close with the last flight. Please ensure you have the necessary visa/accomm. requirements.
